Gary Yatteau first discovered his love for the water when he joined the navy at age 18. Even though he left the service to get married and start a family, he always remained a sailor at heart. The next 45 years Gary worked in the construction trade in Rochester, New York, starting as a pipefitter and working his way up to project manager. Throughout this time, Gary had a constant passion and unique talent for building and creating on both a large and small scale. And for 10 years Gary owned a 43 foot Present Trawler that he travelled throughout the east coast on, from Florida all the way up to Montreal, Canada.
Recently, Gary decided to retire from the construction trade and has now combined his two passions, building and his love of the water. The results are beautifully crafted one of a kind sail boat models using a variety of resources. Most of the sails on his pieces are constructed of copper, while the hulls are carved from different types of solid wood. Many of the details are made of brass that Gary tries to find from salvage shops, house hold sales, and antique stores. This combination of materials makes for a piece that is both antique and modern in design.
